At the beginning of the time, it was known as plaza de Juan de Dios, and then plaza de San Ignacio, this name was replaced by the current one, in honor of the work and effort of San Pedro Claver, in favor of the slaves coming from Africa, which were sold here in Cartagena de indias, important slave-port at that time.

In this square is the sculpture that pays tribute to the slave of the slaves work by Enrique Grau, also you will find a collection of sculptures made in metal by Edgardo Carmona; These sculptures are a representation of some of the everyday activities of Carthaginian social life.

Remember: You can pay if you want enter to the museum, but you don't have to pay if you wanna enter to the church
The Templo and Casa Museo San Pedro Claver (St. Peter Claver temple and House Museum) is located here where you’ll find valuable pieces of religious art, paintings and sculptures, many of them honoring the life of the Saint.
